Converting Letter Analogy to Number Analogy

Actually the word  'Analogy' means 'correspondence’. In analogy questions, a specific and particular relationship is given & another similar relationship has to be identified from the given options.

In solving these questions, first convert the letters into numbers as per their position in the English alphabetical order as mentioned below. Then, try to develop a relation between these numbers.

Study the given examples:

Example 1 : Complete the analogy : C : I : : D : ?

(a) K               (b) N             (c) O           (d) P

Answer : (d)

Solution   :  In the above letter analogy, C is 3 and I is 9, means the code of second letter is square of first letter. Similarly, third letter is D, the code of it is 4,square of 4 is 16 which is the code of P.

So, P is the answer.

Example 2 : Complete the analogy : AI : EG : : BC : ?

(a)  FF      (b) DF      (c) FI    (d) FL

Answer : (c)

Solution : In the above letter analogy, first term is AI is 19 and second is EG i.e. 57.So, we find that 57 is the multiple of 19 (19X3). Third term is BC i.e. 23, when we multiply 3 with 23, we get 69 i.e. FI.

So, the fourth term will be FI.

Example 3 : Complete the analogy : B : H :: C : ?

(a) A   (b) B    (c) C    (d) D

Answer : (a)

Solution : In the above analogy , B is 2, H is 8, we find that 8 is cube of 2, third term is C, the code of it is 3 and its cube is 27 and when we subtract 26 from it , we get 1 i.e. A.

So, the answer is A.

Example 4 : Complete the analogy : BE : FBE :: CA : ?

(a) IFF   (b) BDE    (c) IFC    (d) IFA

Answer : (d)

Solution : In the above analogy , BE is 25 and second term is FBE i.e. 625.We find that square of 25 is 625. Third term is CA i.e. 31 and the square of it is 961.

So, the answer is IFA.

Example 5 : Complete the analogy : D : FD :: AA : ?

(a) ACCB   (b) BCCA    (c) ACCA    (d) DAAC

Answer : (c)

Solution : In the above analogy , D is 4 and FD is 64, we find that 64 is the cube of 4, third term is AA i.e. 11 and cube of 11 is 1331, So, the answer is ACCA.
